Product Description |
With plenty of power for larger woodworking projects, this beefy power sprayer is designed for the professional woodworker. This unit comes complete with everything you need to spray. This soft-spray power painter feeds high volumes of material at low pressure through its spray gun for total control, no overspray, and no material waste. Specifically designed to spray light bodied materials, this HVLP sprayer uses air to control the shape and size of the spray pattern. Great for woodworking projects indoors and out, this sprayer is perfect for finishing large furniture, lattice, fences, painting metal and stucco. The unit sprays oil-based paints, stains, varnishes, sealers, enamels, latex paints, and more with 89 percent spray efficiency. A four-stage turbine means reliable performance for years of use. The gun features an all-metal design, and is isolated from the motor and filtered for a great finish. The nonbleeder gun means no more messes or drips to clean up. And, a 1.5-quart cup is the perfect size for common woodworking projects. --Brian D. Olson What's in the Box Spray gun, a NBC non-bleeder gun, regulator, 25-foot hose, tangential 4-stage turbine, 1-quart cup, and number 3 pro set.

Perfect Finish

I purchased the 2900 after reading reviews of different HVLP sprayers on the web. The 2900's younger brother the Wagner 2600 was rated the top "affordable" HVLP sprayer by Fine Woodworking magazine and other reviews were favorable for both the 2600 and 2900 so I decided on the 2900. I am giving this unit 5 stars based on the following criteria: Fit & feel - The NBC gun is very light and comfortable in my hand. The hose is nice and flexible so I didn't have to fight it while working on my project. Also, the 25 foot hose gave me plenty of room to work. The gun isn't tiny, but I was able to easily spray the inside of a cabinet without banging into the sides. Gun - You can set the NBC gun to spray in either a horizontal line, vertical line, or a circle. Also, you can change the size of the spray to spray from a 1/2 inch all the way to twelve inches. This is all done by easily adjusting the tip. I found myself continuously adjusting my spray pattern for the specific area of the project I was spraying. Also, as other reviews have mentioned, this is a non-bleeding gun. So air does not continuously spray out of the gun unless the trigger is pulled. I did not have any luck finding other non-bleeding HVLP guns in this price range. Finish - So far I have only used this unit with Sherwin-Williams oil based paint. This is some thick stuff. I found that I needed to thin the paint a little to get the spray to really spread nicely. But once I got it right, the finish was smooth as glass. I couldn't believe how nice it looked. An even better suprise was that I only used half of a quart after giving my console table two coats of paint. Because there isn't a lot of overspray, you use far less paint than with other types of sprayers. Price - When looking at my options, it came down to the Wagner 2900 at $579 or the Capspray CS9100 at $999. Both units are built by Wagner and both have four turbines. It turns out that the only difference between the two units is that the 2600 comes with the NBC gun and the CS9100 comes with the Maxum II gun. Otherwise the internal components are the same. The Maxum II gun has some small advantages over the NBC gun, but not worth the extra $420. There are some descent comparisons of the two guns at www.GleemPaint.com. Overall - This is a great buy. Remember that you may need to make some adjustments with some of the thicker coatings, but it is worth it when you can spray a project with virtually no overspray and end up with a smooth as glass finish. Cleanup is a breeze since you only need to clean the gun (the hose contains nothing but air). Happy Spraying!

The best thing about this sprayer that I don't think any of the others on the market have is a Non-bleeder gun. Most of the sprayers out there including the higher end ones like Fuji have bleeder guns which means the air is constantly passing through the gun even when you release the trigger. The Wagner gun on the other hand (which is a superb gun regardless) stops the flow of air when you release the trigger. The turbines in all of the units as far as I can tell come from the same company so that becomes irrelevant when choosing which unit to buy.

This sprayer does the job well. The trick to a good finish is thinning your paint to the proper level. Takes practice, but my oil base paint worked very well when thinned by about 20%. The gun has very good adjustment in both pattern control and fluid control. It does take a few tries to make adjustments on the fly for optimum spary quality. Be sure to order spare parts from Wagner (like spare gaskets for the gun and filters for the compressor). If you use good thinner, the gun cleans up easily. Be sure to spray WD40 or other lubricant on the gun and components to make sure no paint cures to the parts. Run plent of thinner through the gun. Again, I'm a 1st time user and feel the Wagner HVLP system works great. Glad I bought it. I remodel homes on the side and I feel my Wagner HVLP 2900 will get a lot of use. Wagner has a nice site for spare parts. I'd buy some spares ahead of time and don't wait until you are 1/2 way through a job when something breaks or needs replacing. Again, don't be afraid to thin you paint enough to get the performance you need.
