I bought this unit reconditioned for...including shipping. When it came in it looked brand new with a new hose and gun; I think someone bought it used it once and then returned it.
Putting it together was pretty easy just the handle, pail hanger, gun and hose and the suction and return tubes. It took longer to find the correct wrench than it did to put it together. The instructions in the manual are a little difficult to understand for someone new like me that hates painting, but after 2 or 3 times I finally got it. Priming the unit is easy just put the bucket under the intake tube turn the dial to prime and turn it on till you see paint running back into the bucket from the return tube. Then flip the dial to spray and you are ready to go. There is a pressure dial down on the side if you are spraying Latex run it up to maximum and you are ready to let fly. Make sure you have a big hat goggles and a mask because the worst part of this process especially in a small room is the "FOG" I used a garbage bag (extra large) cut a hole in the top and some arm holes; cheap easy and disposable and fired it up. It took me a little bit of time to get used to spraying and how it would work but once I did, it was the about as fast as I could move, I painted a 220 sq ft room with 2 closets all with 8 foot ceilings and also 2 ceilings in an ajoining bathroom in a matter of minutes. This thing can lay down some serious work very very quickly and the coverage was much better than a roller or brush just have someone watch you and if you do miss a little spot just have them point. You will need lots of light we painted at night and it was hard to see. I would guess you could paint a garage wall 20x8 in under a minute. It took longer to use 1 gallon cans (stirring and repriming) so I would recommend 5 gallon buckets if possible. Cleanup is pretty easy put the intake tube in a bucket of clean water and the return tube back in the paint can and set it to prime and turn it on just for a little while until the paint starts to turn clear maybe 10 seconds or so total then put the return tube back in the water bucket with clean water reprime it. Take the tip off of the gun and throw it in a bowl of water set it to spray put the gun at the edge of the paint can/bucket and turn it on to spray the paint back in the bucket until it starts to get clear then put the gun in a big sink and pump some water through the hose for a few minutes. Then pull the filter out of the gun and brush it, I used an old tooth brush clean it up. Then clean up the dust and any spills and reassemble and you are done. Oh yeah also pull the intake tube off and plug it with the attached plug after cleaning. Also put a few drops of the separating oil in the top oil hole not too much or it will leak all over the place. Overall if you have some painting to do this unit will do it; don't waste your money on the small little hand held units I did that a few years ago and it was a waste of...bucks. There are also accesories for this unit, for an 8 foot ceiling just stick your hand up and keep it moving if you have a tall ceiling look into the 6 foot extension.
top notch sprayer

I recently purchased a Wagner 9150 sprayer from Toolcrib. When it arrived I put it to work the next day. I was able to stain a 1500 sq ft deck with 2 coats in 2 days. Three years ago I had the same deck stained by a painter and the cost was $400 dollars for labor alone. The first job I did payed for the sprayer. It is easy to adjust and use and cleanup is a breeze.
Excellent unit for homeowner

I bought mine factory reconditioned from GleemPaint.com for a VERY good price and received the unit in 2 days. My previous sprayer was a Wagner Power Pro (hand buzzer) and the 9150 is way, WAY superior. Since it's advertised as an entry level "contractor grade" sprayer, I expect it to last a fairly long time since it will only get occasional use plus most "wearable parts" are replacable. The tip size helps control the paint flow and spray pattern, so you may need more than one tip for handling different jobs. I'm VERY satisfied with both the unit and GleemPaint.
Gets the job done.

Let me first qualify my expertise in writing this review. I am a home owner without any experience in the commercial paint spraying market. I purchased a new home with approximately 3,000 square feet of cedar fence that is a box and scalloped type construction.

I wanted to apply the cedar stain as efficiently as possible. The paint brush method seemed slow and inefficient. I bought the sprayer to shorten the time to apply the stain and obtain a professional application.

The Wagner Power Products 9150 Twin Stroke Piston Pump Paint Sprayer delivered on my expectation of efficiency and professional application of the stain.

The sprayer is only practical for large applications because there is set up time, cleaning of the unit, overspray reduction preparation, and the trade off of efficiency of application versus increase use of the stain due to overspray.

Taking all of the variables in consideration, the Wagner Power Products 9150 Twin Stroke Piston Pump Paint Sprayer is a good investment if you value your time and have a large project.
Timesaver on a big job

Reviewer: Mark DIY,
The 9150 works as advertised and paid for itself in the first few days of use. Powerful, high-volume, even spray. Cleaning takes quite a while and a lot of water (for latex paints), so it only makes sense to use this sprayer if you are planning to paint a considerable area. Once I got used to the whole process - after using it once or twice - the cleanup process takes about half an hour.

The only drawback I encountered is a clog-prone inlet ball-valve. I thoroughly cleaned the valve and it is still prone to clogging if you stop spraying paint for 10 minutes or so. It's pretty annoying to disconnect the paint tube to free up the valve in the middle of a spray job. To avoid clogging when I need to pause for a while, I switch the pump to "prime" and run it for a few seconds at regular intervals.

Be sure to buy a swivel attachment for the gun/hose. Otherwise, you'll spend your time fighting the hose as you move about.

Overall, a good value.

Product Description

The Wagner Power Painter Max with Optimus Dual-Tip Technology is a handheld sprayer designed for homeowners who want to speed up their painting projects. It uses high-speed piston-pump technology and a tungsten-carbide tip to provide control, minimal overspray, and a fan-shaped pattern that's preferred by professionals. Electronic four-speed control makes the Power Painter Max great for painting large surfaces and detail work alike, including shutters, lattice, sheds, fences, decks, garages, and smaller houses.

The Wagner Power Painter Max with Optimus Dual-Tip Technology package includes:
  • Wagner Power Painter Max with Optimus Dual-Tip Technology
  • Dual tips
  • 1.5-quart paint reservoir
  • Six-foot dual hose set
  • Dual hose fitting

Paint can be sprayed from the 1.5-quart reservoir or extracted directly from the paint can with the included suction tube. View larger.
This sprayer's two-tip design gives it the versatility and precision for evenly painting large surfaces and small detail work alike.
Two Tips are Better than One
Wagner realizes that when it comes to paint sprayers, two tips are better than one. The Power Painter Max with Optimus Dual-Tip design creates a vacuum effect between the tips, which draws more paint particles into a single spray distribution than single-tipped sprayers. The result is more even surface coverage, better paint adhesion, wider spray pattern, longer-lasting finish, less overspray, more precise control, and greater versatility for covering a wider variety of surface types. With the Power Painter Max you can achieve professional-looking results three times faster than when painting with a brush.

Each spray tip is made from durable tungsten-carbide, the same material used by professional paint sprayers. The result is added durability, longer lifespan, and better performance over the outdated steel and ceramic spray tips found on other guns.

And with a rotatable tip guard, the Power Painter Max can change direction to paint up and down or side to side. Just rotate the tip guard for maximum versatility.

Four Speeds and Flow Control Put Versatility and Precision at Your Fingertips
Because of its built-in electronic four-speed control, you can use the Power Painter Max to spray a variety o f surfaces and materials with just one tool. Just push a button to switch between spraying large surfaces and small, detail pieces. Lower speeds allow for greater control over trim pieces, while faster speeds handle exterior walls quickly and easily by increasing the flow of material through the sprayer.

The Power Painter Max also has an easy flow-control function for dialing in the perfect spray pattern for the material you're using. Thicker spray materials work best at the higher-flow positions, while thinner spray materials work best at the lower-flow positions. The lower the flow, the closer you can get to your work and the less overspray you will have. Changing the spray pattern is as easy as turning the flow control knob counterclockwise to increase the amount of paint flow and turning it clockwise to decrease it.

Spray Up to 7.2 Gallons per Hour
Powerfully built, the Power Painter Max lets you spray up to 7.2 gallons per hour, making fast work of big projects. You can spray material from either the large, 1.5-quart reservoir, or for larger tasks, you can use the included six-foot suction tube to extracting paint directly from the can.

Smart Design Provides Comfort and Ease of Use
Power Painter Max's soft-grip handle provides all-day comfort for larger painting projects, and the sprayer's lightweight construction allows for comfortable one-handed operation. For even greater convenience, you can use the included backpack reservoir for maximum mobility while you paint.

The Power Painter Max sets up in less than five minutes: simply plug the sprayer into a standard 120-volt socket and you're ready to start painting. Cleanup takes less than ten minutes with the included cleaning brush.

The Power Painter Max with Optimus Technology is backed by a one-year limited warranty.
