Great HVLP Sprayer

Review Date: June 21, 2006
Reviewer: Mark Novak, Seattle WA
Bought the CH HV2500 to paint all the cabinets in my house. Had never used a sprayer before. Took me six days to prepare the cabinets (remove hardware, wash, sand, prime, tape off face etc), and only about three hours to spray the whole job, 62 cabinets. I sprayed acrylic latex. The hardest part was in getting this thick paint thinned down to the correct viscosity. I also used Floetrol to help the latex lay flat. Once I discovered the correct mix, the CH HV2500 put on a mirror-like finish. I am very happy with this product.

we've been waiting to purchase an hvlp sprayer and have been experimenting with much more pricey outfits (1,000-2,000)We were in a pinch and decided to buy this outfit because we needed one asap. we figured it would hold us over till we could get one of the outfits we had been looking at purchasing. what a surprise! this is a great hvlp. we've used it numerous times now. no hassle to set up. no hassle to use. no hassle to clean. the hose is great for getting behind larger pieces and the spray flow is perfect to use with lacquer or poly. (although the 2 stage won't accomodate paint) we are so happy with it that we are going to stick with this one!
Great System - Great price

I am a professional finish carpenter and I do painting on the side (cabinet work, trim, etc). I have used a variety of HVLP sprayers and this unit, does just fine with all types of finishes when used properly. I have all the needle/nozzle sets (all purpose, thin and thick material) and I have no complaints when spraying various finishes (stains, latex, water/oil based clear-coats). The trick is knowing which tip to use and how to thin the material properly. When done right, this unit certainly gets the job done.
Very nice sprayer

While this may not be the best HVLP on the market I give it 5 stars because I was able to very easily do exactly want I wanted to with it.

I had never used anything like this before but I decided to give it a try with the kitchen cabinets that I was building. I was very apprehensive about my ability to use it correctly, but I was actually amazed at how smooth of a finish I was able to get with it. A professional job could not look any better...

I used this solely with Minwax oil based satin finish polyurethane, which was of the correct viscosity straight out of the can.

I consider the cleanup of the gun to be much easier than cleaning out a paint brush, even though I used an oil based product with it.

As far as over spray goes, there still will be quite a bit, so cover everything up well around the area you are spraying in.

If you are debating on whether to spray or not, and you have a lot of material to cover, I would highly recommend using this sprayer, as I know that it saved me many days of brushing and I would have never got as smooth of a job without this.

I really like the the sprayer. However, you really have to practice to get used to the spray pattern that is established. It's hard to see the finished product unless you get the light just right. There are darker streaks at the middle of the spray than at the outskirts of the pass. I used semi-gloss Sherwin-Williams paint and in most cases it covers beautifullly. I also diluted the paint with a water based conditioner and this seemed to help allow the paint to spread without drying to rapidly. The gun is really easy to clean and the most difficult thing is to make sure the paint is the right consistency for spraying.

Hopper Adjusts for Ceilings or Walls
The Power Tex features a large, one-gallon, two-position hopper that can be quickly configured for spraying either ceilings or walls without the need for adapters. Simply fill the hopper with water-based texture material--the same stuff the pros use--plug the hopper into a standard 15-amp wall socket, and spray. The hopper's three-point stand will stabilize the unit, making filling a snap, and the built-in arm rest will keep you comfortable while you work.

Lock-n-Go Technology for Quick and Easy Use
Featuring Wagner's Lock-N-Go Technology, the Power Tex is easy to set up and clean anywhere--no tools required. Assembly takes just minutes: lock the air turbine onto the back of the spray gun with a simple twist and fit the hopper into place on the top of the gun. Screw on the desired nozzle and the Power Tex is ready to go.

Cleaning the Power Tex is also a breeze. Simply remove the air turbine, hopper, and nozzle from the spray gun and clean with the included brush and warm, soapy water. Let dry and reassemble the unit for storage--it's that easy!

Time to Go Green with Painting Projects?

May 13, 2009 by Robert · Leave a Comment

It's no secret that in times past, paint has been saturated with all sorts of toxins, not the least of which was lead. As the world struggles to go green, painting manufacturers are detecting that customers are demanding that stores carry non-toxic paints. Indeed, there now are categories of environmentally safe paints. Read on for more information that will help you in your thinking about going green with paint, and we're not talking about the color, green.

Going Green with Painting!

The environment has become a top priority in agendas everywhere these days. This includes the painting industry. Along with other areas of home construction and improvement, companies are becoming innovative in providing environmentally conscious customers with products earth friendly for their home projects.

Demand for Environmentally Safe Paints Is On the Rise.

The rise in customer demand for these types of paint has had the manufacturers running to create at least one or two non-toxic paints and get them to the store shelves. More and more contractors are asking for low volatile organic compounds or VOC in the paint or finish they use.

Three Categories of Environmentally Safe Paint Now Exist.

When it comes to environmentally friendly paints, you have three basic choices, natural, non-VOC and low VOC. If you are wondering which products are available in your area ask a local contractor which ones he is able to get. Choosing safe products from your contractor is a valuable option.

Toxins in the Air From Paint Fumes

You may not know this but there is a potential for paint to release low levels of toxins several years after the paint has been applied. Volatile organic compounds affect people as well as the environment with contaminants. The painting industry has pretty much had to depend on the supply of paint available, and these paints offered the best performance when applied.

There are Many Benefits From Going Green With Your Paint.

Now with going green, painting contractors are discovering non toxic mixtures to be beneficial in many ways. The new paints are effective in coverage and in disposal. Hazardous waste is minimal and clean up is easy. There is little or no after paint fumes and occupation of the room is available in less time. There is even fragrance filler which is non toxic and can be added to your paint. This fragrance can last well over three to four months leaving your rooms smell fresh instead of the toxic odors known so well by paint application. Overall, both customers and painting contractors are agreeably pleased with the results provided by these products.

Learning about Green Paints Will Help You Communicate Your Needs.

Familiarizing yourself with the latest environmentally sound products is a good idea particularly if you are considering a home project. Then you will be able to communicate efficiently with your painting contractor about what you need done and which products you would like used.

Many quality paint jobs become compromised when communication becomes lost in translation, usually due to lack of knowledge of these products. A reputable and experienced painting company will be able to assist to completion your desire to go green.

Today's idea of painting with green products limits impact on environment, giving you the opportunity to choose safe options for the environment and your family. In the end isnt that what everyone desires? Simple measures that anyone can employ to do their part in saving the planet.
